Fillings are the restorative material that replaces tooth substance that has been lost through decay or other damage. For the last 150 years amalgam, a blend of silver, tin and mercury, has been the most commonly used material for the restoration of back teeth.

Tooth colourerd fillings could not be used until relatively recently except in front teeth and even then they lasted only a short time and did not match the teeth accurately.

Happily, advances in the science of dental materials has enabled enormous improvements in recent years and now, in the vast majority of cases, strong reliable tooth coloured fillings are able to be placed anywhere in the mouth so that the teeth appear unfilled.

Many people wish for their old black amalgam fillings to be changed to tooth coloured fillings for a vastly improved cosmetic appearence and to eliminate mercury from their mouth due to the strong health concerns that many have reported with this heavy metal.

Old amalgam fillings can be removed
and replaced with cosmestically appealing tooth coloured fillings

Our principal John Osborne has particular experience and interest in the areas of replacing amalgam fillings and has not used mercury or any other metal filling since 1981. He regularly attends update courses with lecturers from all over the world to ensure patients benefit from the very latest techniques in modern dentistry. Recently John has produced a training video for other dentists in the use of amalgam free techniques.
